From the Pastor: January 19, 2004
When I awoke this morning (Sunday), I was discouraged. It's been years since I've missed going to church two Sundays in a row. I wanted to be with fellow believers worshipping at Grace Baptist Church. I wanted to hear the choir. I wanted the wonderful privilege of preaching the good news of Jesus Christ. I wanted the joy of fellowship with many of you.
But God had a special blessing ahead for me. In my normal course of devotional reading, I read the 143rd Psalm. Beginning in the 5th verse, some of the verbs almost jumped off the page to challenge me and to guide my prayer.
"I remember the days of old." (Thank you, Lord, for Mother and Dad who raised us in a loving Christian home - who modeled obedient discipleship, faithful and intercessory prayer, and service in Christ's church.)
"I think about all your deeds, I meditate on the works of your hands." (Lord, I see the beauty of the "works of your hands" each day as I look around at this amazing world - from the vast beauty of a starry night to the smallest flower and the wonders of the snow. God, what a wonderful salvation you have provided through Jesus. You have granted forgiveness - and how often I need it! You have given me new life; you led me in new and fulfilling ministries after Luke's death. You gave me the opportunity to minister to and with this loving congregation at Grace Baptist Church.
"Teach me the way I should go . . . Teach me to do your will . . ." (Dear Lord, when I try to find my way alone, I really make a mess of it. Please open my ears and heart to listen when you teach me. Then help me to follow, to submit my sometime stubborn will to your holy will.)
LORD, I THANK YOU THIS DAY FOR A VERY SPECIAL AND TIMELY BLESSING FROM YOUR WORD. AMEN.
Sincerely,
Pastor Harriet
