From the Pastor: April 26, 2004
Way back last July, I wrote in “Grace Notes” about a wonderful sermon I had heard, with the outline an acrostic on “grace.” There is another such acrostic that is quite different – maybe simpler, but still good. It’s a definition of what grace has meant for us - “God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense.” “Grace” is such a beautiful and meaningful name for a church.
Yesterday (April 25), we started a new series of sermons exploring teachings about “grace” as we find them in the first two and a half chapters of the book of Ephesians. In just those 2½ chapters, the word “grace” occurs nine times. That fact alone indicates that the writer, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, thought it was an important subject. Grace is like a many faceted diamond that reflects different colors as it catches the sunlight. Having already considered “The Grace of Adoption,” we will continue over the next four weeks to explore other facets of God’s truly “Amazing Grace.”
Yet to come are “The Grace of Power,” “Riches of Grace,” “The Grace of Peace,” and “The Grace of Witness.” I hope you find blessings, challenges and deeper understandings as we dig into this subject. And I pray that these days will bring to each of you deeper and broader experiences of the “Wonderful Grace of Jesus”
Rejoicing in that grace,
Pastor Harriet
