From the Pastor: September 1, 2004
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
See I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up, do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland”
Isaiah 43:18-19
Grace Baptist Church is on the brink of a new relationship with a new pastor and his family. New relationships usually bring new ideas and new challenges. Sometimes we find ourselves saying (or thinking) “that is not the way we do it here.” Our church has a proud heritage and we can treasure it, yet be ready to move beyond those former achievements. New challenges require fresh approaches.
When the Search Committee visited with Pastor Dave, he asked us to individually express our vision for Grace Baptist Church. I was absolutely amazed at the consistency in thoughts that were expressed. All had the theme of doing “a new thing”, of reaching out to the world beyond the Parking Lot. Is it time for us to be part of God’s promise of making a way in the deserts of our world? Is it time for us to be part of creating streams in the wastelands of our neighborhoods and city?
In Philippians 3:14, the Apostle Paul is quoted as saying, “but one thing I do, forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me...” Dare we claim that responsibility also? Are we ready to cherish the past but not cling to it? Are we ready to “press on” and let God do a new thing through and among us?
It is an exhilarating time; it is a new day! We welcome Pastor Dave, Kelly, Josh and Lauren. We pray for the opportunity to minister together doing the work God gives us to do.
Awaiting God’s Direction,
Vangie Webb, Moderator
