Grace Notes

Thoughts from Pastor Dave: December 5, 2005
Christmas is an Opportunity to say Thank You

     Our family celebrations at Christmas often remind each of us of the many blessings that God has given. One of these blessings is the spiritual leadership that has been a part of your growth and development in Christ. For me that list of leaders includes names such as Jim McCrossen, Dick Sipe, Ben Moor, Randy Blattner and James Spon. For you the list is different. But both of us can express our thank you in a simple yet tangible waythe Retired Ministers and Missionaries Offering sponsored by the American Baptist Churches/USA.

     The RMMO is used in two important ways. First, this offering helps meet special and emergency needs of retired American Baptist Ministers and Missionaries. Second, part of the offering is distributed each year to these retired leaders in Thank You Checks, a tangible way of recognizing our ABC leaders service to our churches and people. I would encourage you to give generously to the RMMO as you think of those ministers and missionaries who have made an impact on your life.

     One of our own retired ministers here at Grace Baptist Church is Stan Black. Last Christmas he included this poem in his Christmas card. I leave you with Stans words.

(1) Jesus is Precious (1 Peter 2:7)
To all who believe;
He is the Savior (John 1:12)
Of all who Receive;
He died on Calvary (1 Peter 3:18)
To save us from sin;
But now He is Living (1 Cor. 15:20-22)
And gives peace within!

(2) Jesus Is Risen
Out of the dark grave;
He is exalted
Mighty to save! (Hebrews 7:25)
He invites sinners
To turn from their sin;
Trusting Him only--
And be Born Again! (John 3)

(3) Jesus Is Coming
What a Day it will be!
Coming in Power
And in His Glory!
We shall be with Him; (1 John 3:1-3)
And like Him shall be!
For thats the promise,
When Him, we shall se.

(4) Until That Bright Day
For we in the Lord;
Lets walk in His way,
As taught in His Word;
That we bring forth fruit,
To His names glory--
And see others saved;
From their sins, set free.

     See you Sunday,
